Wine Gathering in the Land of Gods

Nemea – The heart of winemaking in Greece. The land where the myth of Hercules was born, and where he fought the legendary Nemean Lion. It is also home to the largest wine-producing region in Greece. In this historic land, two friends decided to explore the unforgettable quality of Greek wines, driven by their passion for fine wine and ideal food pairings.

Panagiotis Vasilopoulos (founder of aperis) and Grand Sommelier Alexandros Ntermpeteris (WSPC Level 1 and Level 2) have created the perfect combination of ancient Nemean grape varieties paired with suitable delicacies.

Starting from Athens, we embark on an unforgettable experience in an enchanting land brimming with vineyards, making a brief stop at the Corinth Canal before reaching our destination and beginning our adventure.

Steps of Wine pairing

Step 1​
We are warmly welcomed by the winery owner and begin our tour through the winery. We visit all areas of the winery and learn about the winemaking process, as well as details about each grape variety. Our sommelier is ready to start the pairing and will share his expertise, explaining the characteristics of each variety.

Step 2
We start with the ancient white grape variety, “Kydonitsa” paired with fresh, hand-made sea bass carpaccio.
Accompanied by: Greek natural sparkling water.

Step 3
Next, we move on to a rosé variety, paired with marinated shrimp or sashimi salmon.
Accompanied by: Greek natural sparkling water.

Step 4
Now it’s time for the signature red variety of Nemea (PDO), “Agiorgitiko”. This captivating variety produces a deep red wine full of flavor. We pair this special wine with traditional roasted suckling pig.

Step 5
We finish our experience with a dessert red wine made from the same red variety. This is perfectly paired with Greek feta cheese. The sweetness of the wine and the richness of the cheese create a delightful explosion of flavors.

Step 6
To conclude the experience, we enjoy a Greek coffee—whether you prefer it with or without sugar.

Our experience comes to an end, and we take some time for a leisurely walk around the stunning landscape, perfect for capturing memories in our photo albums. We say goodbye to the winery staff and continue our tour at the archaeological site of Nemea, particularly the imposing Temple of Zeus, which dominates the Nemea valley.
